James Mackenzie Releases Brand New Tune ‘Where You Are Going’.

Originally from Inverness, James Mackenzie has released his brand new track ‘Where You Are Going’ at the start of March. James has been spending time living between both the UK and Germany for the past couple of years. He has kicked off the year with a bang after being made ‘Single Of The Week’ by Janice Forsyth on BBC Radio Scotland and supported by the likes of Amazing Radio, The Scotsman and Sportscene.

‘Where You Are Going’ begins with the most stunning guitar that catches your attention from the offset. The entire vibe of the song is something special. It is the perfect song to chill out to, especially while doing work. I can also imagine seeing James Mackenzie perform this song live in a stunning venue and it being so atmospheric.

James said “It’s about moving from the UK to Germany. I booked my first tour of Germany in2017. I had just come off my biggest UK support tour with Runrig and the drummer, Iain Bayne, insisted that I make the trip. I played my first show in Bonn, at a small Irish Pub called Fiddler’s. There was an instant connection, some kind of heart warming appreciation that I felt was missing for so many years. This continued throughout the tour, into deep Franconia where I was met by people waving Scotland flags and handing me locally brewed beer. That was it! I knew I had to make a change and follow this exciting path. Sitting in my hotel room, thinking of some way to tell my friends, family and fans back in Scotland that this was going to be my future home, I put pen to paper and started writing some lyrics. I wanted to say, “Goodbye, Scotland, but just for now” and “Hello Germany” without cutting any ties. This song epitomises that journey, the feeling of elation and achievement that can only be found by doing something new (or going to live somewhere new).”

It is clear that ‘Where You Are Going’ is a song straight from the heart. The song is easy related to when a person makes a change in their life and how it’s an exciting but nerve-racking time. From a listeners perspective I think the song emphasises to follow your dreams as long as you have a clear path of how you will achieve them in what you are doing and that is a valuable lesson.

James Mackenzie isn’t letting the pandemic get in his way! He is already preparing for his album release, is going on a tour this summer and will then begin writing his second album. Make sure to keep up with James via his socials:
