Meet the Bands – Minds Idle

WHO? Sheffield based band, Minds Idle

GENRE? Psychedelic retro-pop band

FOR FANS OF: Mac Demarco, Temples, The Moons

WHY WE ARE DIGGIN THEM: The band’s release funky, breezy summer vibes through their music that we just can’t get enough of!

THE MUSIC FILES’ FAVOURITE TRACK: 6060 – Take a trip back in time to the 60s with this hypnotising indie anthem suited for a warm summer’s day. Melodic synths, percussive beats and a popping bassline, this track will take you on a trance. You would never believe this is a band starting out in present day but that’s the beauty of it!

THE MUSIC FILES’ FAVOURITE LYRICS:  On a record I’ve been spinning round for days; even though I’m so tired, somebody’s on my side’ (All This Time)

GIG / CAREER HIGHLIGHTS AS TOLD BY THE BAND: ‘Last year we began to gig outside Sheffield’s city walls, and managed to sell out a headline slot at Gullivers in Manchester. Since then we were keeping busy with regular local slots, and had some stuff planned elsewhere in the country, until COVID came along and screwed it all up! In Lockdown we managed to produce and release our debut EP. Then, when we were able to meet again, we shot the ‘Son of an Alchemist’ music video, and edited it in Lockdown No.2. We’re planning to get into the studio with one of Sheffield’s favourite producers as soon as we’re allowed, and record a single.

It’s also worth mentioning that we’ve tried our hand at curating our own events/gigs. We’ve hired out locations such as Haggler’s corner in Sheffield and brought other bands in to support us, and run sound, lighting, visuals, graphics/posters and promotion. Last year our ‘Christmas Shakedown’ night went down a storm!’
