WHO? Leeds Trio, The Banquets
GENRE? Alt Rock Pop Folk
FOR FANS OF: Fleetwood Mac, Broken Bones Matilda and Patti Smith
WHY WE ARE DIGGIN THEM: There’s a fresh new sound that sparks through The Banquets’ music with lead singer, Gemma’s beautiful vocals blending perfectly with the rest of the band’s 70s American style like a modern day Fleetwood Mac but with the band’s own unique touch.
THE MUSIC FILES FAVOURITE TRACK: ‘Red Sky Morning’ The band’s latest release grips listeners in from the offset with it’s 70s folk style and Gemma’s angelic vocals. Think Stevie Nicks meets Patti Smith…That natural effortless voice that has the power to suck people in. Red Sky Morning takes listeners on a journey with it’s rising melodies, infectious acoustics and gripping lyrics. This atmospheric track stands out instantly making The Banquets high influences within the music scene… I cannot wait to see what’s to come for this band!
THE MUSIC FILES FAVOURITE LYRICS: ‘The fire is burning in the attic, it’s coming after you’ (Mr Rochester)
CAREER AND GIG HIGHLIGHTS AS TOLD BY THE BAND: ‘We’re very new to the music scene. We only started gigging in 2019. But in 2019-2020, we’ve had quite a few big gigs: supporting The South (formerly The Beautiful South) on their UK tour, appearing on the Introducing Stage at The Great British Folk Festival, and supporting legendary icon Toyah Wilcox. We released an EP at the beginning of this year, which was all produced in a pokey attic room – nevertheless, considering what we were working with, it’s still pretty good. But Red Sky Morning is our first proper release. We also created a music video to go with it, which was pretty ambitious: standing on cliff faces with various drone shots. We’ve got another single coming out next year, with another pretty crazy music video. It’s very different to Red Sky Morning – unashamedly pop and very fun!
Obviously COVID has halted us this year, but we’ve made the best of a bad situation, working on new music and being busy in the studio. We’ve got a few more video ideas up our sleeves before The Banquets are allowed back on stage.’
