Red Rum Club are a band that are very close to my heart! I’ve not stopped talking about them for the past three years since I first seen them play in Glasgow’s own Garage Attic. Most of you can imagine my excitement when I seen they were releasing their new single ‘Ballerino’ and it’s fair to say the track has lived up to my expectations and more!
Red Rum Club are a six-piece Scouse americana rock band made up of Francis Doran, Tom Williams, Michael McDermott, Simon Hepworth, Neil Lawson and Joe Corby. Red Rum Club have sold out Liverpool’s O2 Academy not once but twice selling an astonishing 3,000 tickets in their home city. The band were recently nominated as Best Live Act at the AIM Independent Music awards and have played festivals across Europe.
‘Ballerino’ was released on 19th August through Modern Sky UK, it was the second single released from their second album ‘The Hollow of Humdrum‘ which is released on Friday 2nd October 2020. Their previous single ‘Eleanor’ was played on BBC 6 Music with Chris Hawkins and Steve Lamacq and playlisted on BBC Radio 2. We promise you that ‘Ballerino’ is just as good, it’s an absolute belter!
Francis Doran describes what the track was written about as: “I am always the fool that gets up first at a wedding, the ‘ballerino’ is me. The way I see it is that if I’m dancing, then I don’t know what you’re doing sitting there, you should be too. Ultimately, it’s about boys not dancing and that sense of unnecessary, toxic masculinity that stops people expressing themselves. It’s like a Billy Elliot story, just forget what anyone else thinks and dance!”
I can guarantee that when you listen to ‘Ballerino’ you’ll be dancing away. It’s the ultimate mood booster that gets you on your feet every time. I’ve been lucky enough to see it live twice and from the first time hearing it I fell in love with it. The track kicks in with Joe’s fiery trumpet and Neil’s energetic drum beats setting the mood to straight away. The mixture between Frans Scouse vocals, Simons bass hooks and the energetic guitar melodies from Tom and Mike make ‘Ballerino’ a stand out song from the band.
Red Rum Club have just announced their next tour next year. They join Circa Waves on their headline tour alongside playing several headline dates of their own.
