Red Rum Club have been winning everyone’s hearts over up and down the country with their astounding live sets and massive sing-a-long choruses, it’s hard to see them slowing down anytime soon. With already some explosive festival sets, sold out shows up and down the country on their headline tours and even a massive sold out show at their hometown Liverpool o2 Academy. Next single “Eleanor” really is setting them up with a great shot at the title of ‘Kings of Indie’ in the near future.
“Eleanor” is a perfect Romeo & Juliet love song encapsulating rebellious young love. It’ll get your emotions flowing easily reminiscing about your other half, crush or a time you were in love – and even if you’re in a rut it’ll make you feel like anything is possible.
You can feel the rhythms pounding your heart and the love story going straight in your ears to your head to give that real ‘coming of age’ love story feel that wouldn’t see the song out of place in any romance film, modern, cult or classic. The track gives off so much emotion, with its stripped back sound that allows Fran’s emotive vocals sit on top and really take hold you as well as providing the amazing vocal hook;
“If you could see what I see, we could be high till the morning comes,
She throws her arms around me, I release I’m the lucky one [e-l, e-a, n-o, r]”
“Eleanor” for me shows a big progression in Red Rum Clubs sound, the synth bass driving the track from the start really telling you from the get go it’s a bit different what we may be expecting, giving slight 80’s synth-pop vibe – similar to the likes of New Order. All of the element’s Red Rum Club that we know and love are there but the production on this track has really pushed this to a polished modern indie hit.
Red Rum Club have been going from strength to strength over the past few years and it looks like it will continue into this year, including a nomination for ‘Best Live Act’ at the AIM Independant Music Awards. With the band still to complete some massive gig’s still to come later in the year, including a UK tour with Circa Waves and a main stage headline slot to close this years Liverpool Sound City.
