Single Review: Pizza Daddy – Too Many Boyfriends

by Emily Duff

Based in London, Pizza Daddy is a duo made up of Ross Pearce and Mike Stothard. Both previously being part of pop band, BOYS, they have experienced touring around both Europe and America. This means the lads have a lot of experience behind them in terms of audience understanding and working with each other as well as in their musicality.

Too Many Boyfriends is a toe-tapping but slightly melancholy tune. With lyrics like “I don’t believe it’s true”, the song expressed the struggles with understanding relationships – their own and others. With unspoken rules and expectations of mystery as well as communication, relationships are renowned for being hard to navigate.

The single is based on the story of a friend who was concerned the person he was seeing was also seeing other people, despite him doing the same. The ideas of double standards and misinformation are addressed in Too Many Boyfriends but with a light and airy melody and soft vocals to accompany and forthcoming these issues.

Despite these somewhat emotional topics, Too Many Boyfriends manages to still be lighthearted and easy to listen to. Rather than being overly emotional in the instrumental accompaniment, the lyrics speak for themselves against a string almost pop-rock atmosphere as well as having a catchy melody within the lyrics.

After releasing Family Time in January, Too Many Boyfriends takes on a more chilled out look at relationships. In comparison to Family Time’s slow and synthy tune that focuses on more personal issues, Too Many Boyfriends seems to take on a more lighthearted, humorous and pop-style take on relationships.

Keep your eyes peeled for more releases by the duo.
