Happy Bank Holiday Monday! I suppose the definition of weekend has completely changed in the current landscape but I thought I’d share a playlist of absolute bangers I’ve been in love with over the last few weeks that you can sip your afternoon rums to in the garden! But let me tell you the highlights first…
She Stole My Sky – Sunstinger
This track is simply gorgeous , by post punk outfit Sunstinger , narrates an inner turmoil surrounding mental health. The track is covered in shoegazing chorus fueled guitar that would sit perfectly at home in the back catalogue of My Bloody Valentine or Joy Division. Having seen Sunstinger live on numerous occasions – they are a must for any lover of post punk music.
Dead Girl In The Pool – Girl In Red
If you’re anything like me Tik Tok is now your favourite social media platform – but let me tell you its a hive of amazing upcoming musicians and I’ve discovered some absolute bangers through the platform – this is one of them. Girl In Red tackles mental health issues on the nose so beautifully and Dead Girl In The Pool captures the often romanticized pandemic of depression in young people and analyses the wreckage it leaves behind.
Bonfire – Foreignfox
Having grown up in Dunfermline I’ve been aware of Foreignfox from the age of 14 , I adore the bands entire back catalogue , however ‘Bonfire’ from their sophomore record “I Used To Be A Belly Dancer” is an absolute stand out track – a proper arms full ae goosebumps tune – let me tell you the feeling of “all of the oxygen burned on the bonfire” being chanted in a venue is electric! The outfit also recently released a screamer of a track Exit Frame
Shark Week – Lauran Hibberd
I’ve recently fallen back in love with super lo fi bedroom indie rock and I think Lauran Hibberd‘s ‘Shark Week’ has been at the forefront of that! This beautifully nostalgic track made me feel the exact way I used to feel crying to early Taylor Swift records! It’s a big “going for a drive at night with the windows down” track … or those familiar with Stephen Chbosky’s novel “The Perks Of Being A Wallflower” it is 100% my tunnel song.
