Meet the Musician: Katya Richardson

WHO? LA composer and producer, Katya Richardson

GENRE? Electrojazz, Filmmusic

FOR FANS OF: SOPHIE, Flying Lotus, Son Lux, Sofi Tukker and Billie Elish

THE MUSIC FILES FAVOURITE TRACK: III – Katya’s latest EP, Life From Write, consisting of three very different tracks; I, II and III create a blistering collection of electronic synths and addictive bass. Although all three tracks deliver their own individual touch, my favourite track has to be III. The Instrumental piece really captures Katya’s unique blend of powerful, catchy sounds that really emphasises the electronic jazz style that flows together so well. It totally mesmerises listeners with it’s weird but brilliant vibe that would be incredible to witness during a live session. The type of music that should be played LOUD so we can really appreciate every bizarre yet wonderful note.

WHY WE ARE FANS: The wide range of unique instruments allows Katya’s music to put you in a trance… the sort of music that lets listeners escape reality, switch off and really enjoy the music.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: has worked with dancers and choreographers from The Royal Ballet, Norwegian National Ballet, and USC Kaufman School of Dance. Assisted in the studios of film composers, Danny Elfman and Hans Zimmer, and is now working on an experimental dance film about plastic pollution, in partnership with KO Productions (UK).

GIG HIGHLIGHTS: music performed at the Hollywood Bowl, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Royal Opera House in London, and Oslo Opera House in Norway.
