CAREER AND GIG HIGHLIGHTS AS TOLD BY THE BAND:
Speak Easy Circus started as a solo project before expanding to a live band in early 2019. All of our music so far has been recorded and mixed ourselves in our flat and in 2019 we released our first single ‘Balance the Knife’, an indie/funk combination. This was followed up by second single ‘Write it Down’, a more introspective singer/songwriter song which preempted our debut EP released in late 2019, ‘Bravo Tango Charlie’. Our most recent single was ‘Neon in Daylight’, our feel good ‘summer banger’ which was designed to be played in festivals and parks, however we still decided to release it despite the current lack of festivals!
We have been continually trying to develop our live sound, looking to translate recorded songs into live songs. We try to make our live shows a different experience to our recorded music. We extend, modify, speed up, slow down various songs, and also include improvised sections and extended solos largely influenced by the bands jazz and soul background. We played our first shows at venues such as the Record Factory and 13th Note and these shows led to the exciting opportunity to play historic venues such as King Tut’s and the O2 Academy. Our most recent gig was our first ever headline show at Nice ’N’ Sleazy earlier this year which was a fantastic experience. So far we have been focused primarily on playing shows in and around Glasgow but over the next year we are looking to expand our reach and play all around Scotland and the UK, supporting awesome bands and also throwing in some headline shows as well.
