Meet the Bands: The Notions

WHO? Hailing from East Ayrshire, Lewis, Adam, Reece and Chris all make up The Notions

GENRE? Indie Rock

FOR FANS OF: The Snuts, Arctic Monkeys and The Hives

THE MUSIC FILES FAVOURITE TRACK: Filthy Thief – The enticing guitar riffs, addictive drum beats and striking vocals pulls listeners in and does not let them go! Filthy Thief was certainly the track that stuck out for me the most with first listening to The Notions… be it the snappy, rapid beat or the catchy lyrics… you’ll be hooked from the get-go. It really demonstrates the high quality of songwriting ability the band have.

WHY ARE WE DIGGIN THEM? At only 18-20 years of age, the band have made a promising start in their career with the influence of 70s punk highlighted throughout their tracks alongside their own modern touch. If this is the quality The Notions are at now at such a young age, can you imagine what they’re going to be like in a few years?!

THE MUSIC FILES FAVOURITE LYRICS: ‘Still to this day, it’s never the same, how could I have been so vain? Our conversations still haunt my mind, oh how could I have been so blind?‘ (The Way I Used To Be)

GIG & CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: In April 2020 the band released their new EP “Giving Up The Masquerade” and recently played their first headline show in Glasgow’s Room 2. The band have recently received praise from the likes of The Lathums and The Snuts, with The Lathums enjoying the bands catchy riffs and sharing their acoustic covers on social media and The Snuts adding one of the bands songs to a playlist of theirs.  A few gig highlights from the band would include supporting Connor Fyfe at the classic grande to a sold out crowd. Playing their first headline and debuting new songs and receiving a very positive response. In the future the band aims to continue writing and recording more songs and inevitably release a full length LP. More short term goals include playing larger venues and supporting bigger bands around a variety of venues in Scotland before aiming to play gigs all over the UK too.
