Socially Distant Spins with Joshua Grant

From selling out his first headliner show in December, releasing his debut single of 2020, ‘Figure It Out’ to supporting Tom Walker, Joshua has made quite the impression within the Scottish music scene! Recently, Joshua has been entertaining us throughout the lockdown us via live performances on social media … a must during these times! Find out what albums Joshua has been listening over the last few weeks…

Album 1: American Idiot – Green Day

Why did it make the list? To me, the best concept album ever. The story throughout the album is incredible and you can see how it translates to Billie Joe’s actual life. Works a treat on stage as well with the American Idiot Musical.

Favourite track – Jesus of Suburbia… Why does no one write 9 minute rock ballads anymore? It’s like the Bohemian Rhapsody of punk rock. This is one of my favourites to blast in the car.

Album 2: Back in Black – AC/DC

Why did it make the list? Growing up my Dad played this album religiously on every car trip we had. It’s proper Rock n Roll and I love it. I was lucky enough to see AC/DC on their Rock or Bust tour at Hampden and remember being able to feel the bass drum shake my bones it was that loud. What a band.

Favourite Track – You Shook Me All Night Long Catchy riff; the lyrics are just too good and Brian Johnson’s voice is magic. What an anthem.

Album 3: The 1975 – The 1975

Why did it make the list? I don’t know why The 1975 get so much hate. Matty can definitely be a bit of a twat but he’s some songwriter. I guess it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I’ve seen them live through all of their different album tours and they just keep getting better. This album probably holds the majority of their best songs but I could have picked any one.

Favourite Track – Robbers My best mates and I went on holiday together last year around Europe and went to the Sziget Festival in Budapest. Best thing I’ve ever done. The 1975 headlined and Sonny (one of my friends) had waited the whole holiday for the “NOW EVERYBODYS DEAD” line from Robbers. It was well worth the wait.

Album 4: Come Over When You’re Sober Pt1 – Lil Peep.

Why did it make the list? This is a gorgeous album with every song being as good as the last. Absolutely tragic what happened to Lil Peep. Clearly an extremely talented Artist who died far too soon. One of those albums where you feel every word he says.

Favourite Track – Awful Things Just a beautiful song. The perfect blend of punk rock with trap beat like drums. Has a special place in my heart.

Album 5: The Heist – Macklemore

Why did this make the list? My friends know I wasn’t obsessed with Macklemore when I was younger. MUCH younger. Most of the tracks on here are just fun cheesy songs but they’re some which tackle some harder issues. Sometimes feel Macklemore gets a hard time. I even tried to get my hair cut like him w. I look back on that time with fondness and disgust.

Favourite Track – Thrift Shop This probably isn’t my favourite Track on this album but if I was asked to rap a song word perfect or I’d die. This would be the one I pick.
