My first impression of Thumper came from looking at their website – WOW! This is innovative, different and quite a stand-out – the most interesting homepage I have seen so far.
Ok … they have caught my attention and so I click on the “play” button and start to listen to the video. It has a lot of energy and loud & bold – even angry-ish. Ummm…am I going to like this….?
I like it! Not my go-to kind of music but I can still appreciate it for its value and appeal to the audience the band is playing for.
*Ad Nauseam* is that penultimate kind of angst song that perfectly captures the frustration of a relationship in words that drip with disdain and a defiant driving rhythm declaring the song’s meaning loud & clear:

“I’ve got the patience of a saint…
Maybe you’re beautiful inside
But tonight oh tonight….”
“You’re going on and on and on and on and on…”.
There’s no second guessing about what this song is about. You can picture the guy’s eyes rolling back with “get me outta here” playing in his head. Every person who listens to *Ad Nauseam* who has ever come across a situation where they just want to scream but need to hold back gets it.
The song says it all! And that’s the sign of a good song no matter what music style – it has the power to put into words what people are feeling. And angry/frustrated feelings need an outlet. Turning to music is as old as time – and a better alternative to other life choices people make!
There will be no studying the lyrics down the road during some University course to figure out is the meaning of this song. It’s black & white. In your face. Undeniable.

“Your rule of thumb is boring me to death”
“Well I’ve got a bone to pick when you get sick of dancing on my head”
“You’ve said your piece but Jesus baby can you give it a rest?”
But I have to say – having watched the whole video, and loving the psychedelic elements – and understanding the angry, get-out-of-my-face kind of song that it is, I couldn’t help but laugh at how it ended. Hahaha! Looked like they were all running off stage as if to look for cover – from their wives/partners/girlfriends? Hahaha. Made me chuckle.
Have a listen – a good song is a good song no matter what your preferred music style is. I would put this one on my playlist.
