FOR FANS OF: Think a modern day Stevie Wonder meets an ‘Iron Sky era’, Paolo Nutini
THE MUSIC FILES FAVOURITE TRACK: Spruce Moose
WHY ARE WE DIGGIN THEM? From the strong soulful vocals of Tom to the sweet sounds of the saxophone, English Horns and the piano, the amount of talent in the band is incredible. It’s great to see a band bringing back soul / funk to the Glasgow music scene. They write the type of music which was made to be performed on stage.
THE MUSIC FILES FAVOURITE LYRICS: ‘I opened up my eyes and I say I know what it is that I got to do, got one last thing to cling on to and I’ll dedicate myself through and through to being kind to you.’ (Plane Crash, 2019)
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: The release of their debut self-entitled album last year, getting over 124k views on YouTube and over 300k streams on Spotify for their debut record, Ric Flair, their November UK tour which included dates in Dundee, Newcastle, Manchester and London, playing on The Janice Forsyth’s show at the BBC and the release of their latest EP, Caveman / Battle Weapons.
NEW RELEASES: Their latest project, ‘Caveman/Battle Weapons’ – a two part single release with ‘Caveman’ representing more towards heartbreak and ‘Battle Weapons’ focusing on a more feel-good high energy vibe. Both songs collide beautifully to show that both happiness and sadness can exist at the same time. ‘Caveman’ was released on the 14th February and ‘Battle Weapons’ is made up of weekly funk blasts which will be released throughout the rest of February and March.
WHAT’S NEXT? There will be further new releases from Battle Weapons over the next coming weeks that will be celebrated in their next headliner show on Saturday 21st March at Drygate in Glasgow. The band also have an exciting summer planned with appearances from Kendal Calling and Eden Festival.
