Gig Preview | Denholm Promotions Present ‘Ones to Watch 2020’: Vansleep, Vandal Palace, Pyro & Who’s Olivia? | The Garage – Friday 28th February

Just less than a week to go until Denholm Promotions present their ones to watch this year through an incredible showcase of Scottish music from the likes of Vansleep, Vandal Palace, Pyro and Who’s Olivia? at The Garage, Attic in Glasgow. Have a read below to find out more about the bands taking to the stage that night… you do not want to miss this!

Vansleep

All the way from Aberdeen, Alternative rock four-piece, Vansleep have had a strong start to the year already with a hometown headliner in Tunnels last week. The band are really making a name for themselves in the Scottish music scene and for all the right reasons. As soon as I heard their song, ‘Streetlights’, I instantly became a fan. They’ve got an addictive feel to their music that makes you want to listen to them on repeat. Lead vocals and guitarist, Kyle MacRitchie has got an unbelievable vocal range which I just can’t wait to see live. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the band’s live performances so I’m looking forward to see what they have in store for us next week…

Vandal Palace

From supporting Pleasure Heads, playing ‘The Big Gig’ at Saint Lukes and releasing not only one but four singles, Edinburgh indie pop band, Vandal Palace have had quite the year and by the looks of it, 2020 is set to be even bigger! Think Two Door Cinema Club meets Sundara Karma. Their latest single, Actress Disastrous demonstrates the band’s variety of style which is so important. They create the type of catchy music that everyone needs in their lives. Although, this will be my first time seeing Vandal Palace live I already great expectations for them.

Pyro

This will be my second time seeing Bathgate’s rock duo, Pyro and if they’re half as good as last time, you’re all in for a treat. The band is formed of drummer and singer, Connor and guitarist, Cameron and the talent between both of them is incredible. How anyone can play the drums and sing at the same time is beyond me yet it comes so naturally to Connor. Think Laurie Vincent from Slaves! Then you have Cameron with his likeable charm and insane guitar skills on stage. Put them both together and you have the perfect mix… totally understandable why they are listed as ones to watch this year as they’re just going to keep getting bigger and bigger!

Who’s Olivia?

For those who aren’t familiar with Who’s Olivia?’s music, think Wolf Alice meets Tash Sultana. An ambient pop quartet from Glasgow, Who’s Olivia? is a band I’ve wanted to see live ever since they released their latest single, ‘She’ in September last year. It’s an incredibly beautiful song that just totally leaves you lost in the music. Those type of songs are so difficult to come by yet Who’s Olivia? manages to capture it within their first release. It’s one of those songs that will leave the crowd in complete awe and I can’t wait to witness it. As ‘She’ is the only song currently released by the band, Friday night’s show will be the perfect opportunity to hear more of their music…
